OUR NEW HOME

By on May 27, 2017

We are so grateful to be here in Pemba. Our hearts feel at home and we are captivated by the people and beauty of this African oasis. We have settled in quickly and are enjoying our new routine of life. We are so excited to see the media team grow and already have a full list of projects to complete. Other than the projects we already have, I have been dreaming about the unlimited possibilities for the future. Daring to dream big and praying for God’s wisdom to prioritise what needs to be done first. My desire is to capture the stories here and bring them to you. To encourage you, to challenge, grow and strengthen. To share the stories our beautiful author writes and put a fire in the spirits of the others to do something with their little life that will make a difference in this big world.

Just last week we went on an outreach for one night. A team of us drove into a remote village where a large crowd eagerly awaited to hear about Jesus. We put on the Jesus film, and Heidi and Rolland shared the gospel. A lady who was mute and deaf came forward for prayer, and Heidi prayed. The next thing, she could hear! The whole village exploded with celebration and we sang and danced late into the night. For dinner, James and I were so humbled to sit and share a meal with the pastors in the village. To hear their stories of trust, perseverance, faith, and devotion brought tears to my eyes. The next day we held a seminar in the half established walls of the church. The chiefs of the village, all of another faith, stayed and at the end, all gave their lives to Jesus. It’s crazy seeing and witnessing this first hand, we keep pinching ourselves. Jesus’s radical love is so powerful, we depend on Him daily and he never fails.

“But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.” – Psalm 13:5

We have made many friends on base too, especially the iris children who live in our children center. 10-12 boys, in particular, come to our house weekly. James teaches them the guitar and we play games as they teach us Portuguese. We have even had a fun outing to the beach!

Iris has just built a beautiful new community pool too. This is such a gift and luxuries here. I have included a little basic video we filmed about it, just a really small update.

A special thank you to those who have donated clothes, jewelry and coloring pencils and books!
We have been able to bless many with the gifts because of your generosity. It all counts!

There is so much more we will share soon, this is a small insight to our first 3 weeks here.

Much love! Jess

Thank you, Jess for the update and the wonderful pictures which give us a glimpse of life at Iris. So great to hear about the impact that Jesus has had in that remote village you visited where the Jesus film was shared. I am moved when I see the children so full of joy and when I think of how much different their lives are now, to before they became part of Rolland & Heidi’s “family.”

    Many blessings, Gwen. xx
